Is It Legal to Have a Pet Axolotl in Ohio

25/10/2022 | objavio Radio Gradačac

It was once illegal for axolotls to be kept, sold or bred as pets in Virginia. That is no longer the case and the law has recently been amended. Axolotls have been illegal for some time because they are considered exotic animals and it has been considered in the best interest of the welfare of native wildlife that they should not be mixed, which could happen by chance. I have to read a different article than most of you humans, OR I read it wrong. “Non-human primates??” So that means I CAN own a primate or a human slave, right? Who wrote this article? Better yet, who published this article with such absurd ideas? Of course, it is pure common sense that you should not own a tiger or an adult lion in your garden and that there should be rules and regulations to eliminate those who think it is acceptable to put an adult lion or tiger in their garden, but when it comes to labeling Caracals & Serval cats as a wild and dangerous animal, Well, it`s just pure bullshxx. I have had a Class II wildlife licence for 25 years and I have both; Caracals & Servals, and currently I own a 7 year old Serval Cat and in no case is it “WILD” or “DANGEROUS”. She comes from 12++ generations raised and born in human care and there is NO way that my “EXOTIC” ~ NOT ~ “WILD”, but my EXOTIC pet Serval Cat can survive ONE day in the wild. People are confused with the terms “WILD & EXTIC”, it`s like comparing apples to oranges. WILD animals were born in nature and I did, because you would never take ANY animal out of nature, not even a bird, an ant, etc. If they were born in the wild, they must stay there – IN THE WILD. Well, exotic animals like my cat serval were NOT born in the wild and have never been in the wild, meaning they could NOT survive without human care. My serval comes from 12++ generations raised and born in human care. You can do anything in the country or whatever you want, but in no way does it pose a danger to anyone and here in Florida we have very strict rules and laws to follow and, for my part, I agree with the rules and regulations because not everyone takes care of their animals as they should.

Some people don`t even know how to care for their own children. Exotic animals like my serval cat are the same as at one time, ALL horses were wild animals, but we humans raised and kept them as pets, or as ALL birds at one time were wild animals, but we humans raised and kept them as pets and the list goes on and on. Yes, I agree that there should be rules and regulations for anyone who owns any type of pet, just go to your local shelter and see how responsible some people are, but to go so far as to say that exotic animals like Caracals & Servals are WILD & DANGEROUS is an exaggeration. In fact, axolotls are generally classified as exotic animals and are also an endangered species in the wild. Wild animals acquired and registered before 31.12.07 and microchipped before 01.09.07 are allowed as pets as long as they are registered with the state and a long list of requirements has not been violated. As far as Europe is concerned, there are no direct restrictions on the possession of axolotls from the European Union. You can own the pet in accordance with EU laws, but there may be certain restrictions from each country. I think you have completely misunderstood the law with respect to non-human primates. The way it is written makes the persons listed in Section C(20) legal to possess.

Correct me if I`m wrong, but does the way it`s worded mean that non-human primates are NOT banned in section 20? So it makes sense to me that if this list were the one that would be banned, one would think that they would have included great apes and baboons in the permits to have native frogs. Bullfrogs and Northern Leopard Frogs must be taller than 6 inches. In most cases, you will need a permit to import and export axolotls to and from Canada. As long as you import and export to Canada, everything should be fine and you do not need a permit. However, if you plan to export and import to and from the United States, this rule comes into play. Most of the time, the best place to buy an axolotl is at your local pet store, if they have one, or at a larger pet store in a nearby town. This is where axolotls are checked and checked regularly, and it`s very rare that you get a bad deal or a sick animal. Permits are required for the importation, transportation and possession of illegally possessed wildlife. It is unfortunate that not everyone is able to own axolotls.

However, the reason why most governments prohibit the possession of axolotls is in the best interest of local ecosystems. For centuries, humans have destroyed ecosystems and driven animals to extinction. Warning measures, such as limiting where axolotls can be kept, help slow down and prevent collective damage to the world around us. After centuries of destruction of natural habitats, the least we can do is follow these laws and do what we can to ensure that animals and plants in captivity are not released into the wild. No permit is required to have certain wild animals, notably: much better to see these animals in the wild, they are still the ones who suffer in the long term. Well-run zoos have their place, but I will not allow private owners. Thank you. Primates, I think lemurs are legal. Do not quote me on that.

Monica, do some research. Find out how many members of the public have been seriously injured or killed by “exotic” pets. I don`t care if you need to feel safe from a non-threat like my pets. It does not give you the right to hurt my life with your ignorance. However, there are certain import and export rules that everyone should follow. Failure to do so can result in various fines and may be illegal. The Zanesville, Ohio “zoo massacre,” which ended with the deaths of 18 tigers, 17 lions, 6 black bears, 2 grizzly bears, 3 mountain lions, 2 wolves and a baboon after allegedly being freed by their suicidal owner, Terry Thompson, has caused a frenzy among lawmakers to amend previous bills that would have been far too lenient. what exotic animals might be legally owned in Ohio. Keep the tank in a cool room away from sunlight with the water temperature between 57 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit (14 and 20 degrees Celsius); Don`t let it exceed 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius). No special lighting is required for axolotls (unlike many reptiles). In fact, a dark hiding place, such as a flowerpot on the side or an aquarium castle, is often appreciated. Samanthajackson73– No, I`m not saying they`re not dangerous.

I say the public safety argument fails when it is clear that they do not cause more death or injury than any other average large pet. Your comparison of the rules of conduct confirms my position. Cars are not illegal, they are regulated.
