All the usual legal activities of a London borough are included, but beyond that, there are a number of innovative developments that are being tested by councils and require flexible and thoughtful legal support. The partnership employs more than 140 people and generates a turnover of £10 million. More than 1 million people are represented on the constituent councils. The quality of the work continues to attract the interest of other boards and we are regularly asked to take on more work.
The service is ISO 9001:2015 accredited and provides all legal services provided by local authorities to the management of all councils, as well as advice to board members, boards, board committees and schools in accordance with service level agreements. The aim of the service is to provide more resilient and better quality legal services than individual authorities, assuming that savings will have to be made in the budgets of all local authorities in the future. The South London Legal Partnership (SLLP) is the most successful fully integrated legal service in local government. Having started with the London Boroughs of Merton and Richmond in 2011, it has grown to also provide legal services to the London Boroughs of Sutton, Kingston and Wandsworth. LLSC accepts service of legal proceedings on behalf of counsel for which it acts only by prior agreement. Louise graduated as a lawyer in private practice in 1987 and held her first position in local government in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames before moving to Hammersmith and Fulham where she became Head of Legal Services. In 2001, she assumed the role of Supervisory Officer on Islington Board, a position she held for 11 years. In addition to general public law issues, she has specialized in children`s rights, adult social welfare, education and employment.
